About
Simon & Louise Tilden launched The Loft Room B&B in 2013, after an extensive renovation of their family home at 113 South Road, Taunton. The multi award-winning B&B proved so successful, the Tildens decided to expand their philosophy & create Mountlands Lodge. The Lodge was formerly a family garden space, erected controversially by a chap called Wilf; a former owner of 113 South Road in the 1980's and an Antiques dealer in the town.
During the Tilden Family ownership of the property, the Lodge (fondly known as "Wilf's") was used to house the lawn mower and various pieces of unused gym equipment! Louise's vision to transform this cold space sprang to life in 2016 and work commenced in March 2017. The couple's team of local tradespeople have delivered the most inventive space. By March 2018 the Lodge was launched.
Simon set about researching a name for the project and where better to start than the Somerset records office. A plethora of information which he immersed himself in totally! His research revealed that South Road had formerly been named Mountlands and our property was infact 16 Mountlands! Mountlands was re-named South Road in the 1950's and latterly, adjoining roads, Mountfields and Greenlands were built. Mountlands Lodge was born.
It is worth noting no longer offer a B&B service - We quite enjoy having our house all to ourselves ;-)
